About

Hello!

I’m Sara Shaarawi, a playwright from Cairo, now based in Glasgow. I’ve had the chance to work with a bunch of fantastic theatre companies across the UK like the National Theatre of Scotland, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Shubbak Festival, Fuel Theatre, Edinburgh International Festival, Imaginate Children’s Festival, Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Scottish Refugee Council, and Paines Plough. My work has even made its way internationally to places like South Africa, Uganda, Egypt, and Germany.

I write for all kinds of performances—whether it’s scripts for audio, projects with and for kids and young people, or more conventional forms of theatre. Alongside writing, I often run workshops for adults and youth, whether it’s a one-time thing or a longer series, I sometimes provide mentoring or run writers’ groups to support other writers.

I also have experience in organising and curating events, particularly in a festival and/or SWANA context, and you’ll occasionally find me hosting or emceeing events across Scotland.

I am represented by Julia Tyrell Management. All writing enquiries should go through them.

For everything else, feel free to get in touch with me here.
